We will be there from 7pm onwards. All are welcome to attend.
Porthkerris, Cornwall, 22-23 July 2017 £295.00
Why not come and join us on our dive trip to Cornwall. We will be staying in beachfront accommodation and diving from a hard boat with space for 12 divers. We will complete 4 dives over 2 days and there will be the opportunity for shore dives on the Friday we arrive.
In the evening weather permitting we will have a bbq on the beach
Over 100 ships are known to have been wrecked here, including the “Mohegan” which some divers claim is haunted! Along with the obvious wreck diving, the Manacles offer superb scenic dives at a range of depths on rocky pinnacles such as Raglan Rock, Penwin and Vase Rock. The area is teeming with anemones, crustaceans and fish.
Another nearby dive site is the wreck of the cargo ship “Volnay” which sank, without loss of life, in mid December 1917. This steamer was arriving from Canada with supplies of ammunition for the Western Front – but also coffee, sugar, jam, butter and other luxuries that were scarce during the Great War.

Octopus and Squid Evolution Is Officially Weirder Than We Could Have Ever Imagined
They edit their own genes!
Just when we thought octopuses couldn’t be any weirder, it turns out that they and their cephalopod brethren evolve differently from nearly every other organism on the planet.
In a surprising twist, scientists have discovered that octopuses, along with some squid and cuttlefish species, routinely edit their RNA (ribonucleic acid) sequences to adapt to their environment.

Marsa Shagra Dive trip 2017
11 of us headed out to Marsa Shagra in Egypt on the 25th March. We had a great weeks diving, some of the group saw dolphins and everyone saw turtles. The weather was hot and the sea temperature was 23 degrees c. Thanks to Red Sea Diving Safari for making us so welcome.

Portland 27th – 28th May
Whether or not you have experience of diving in British salt water you are welcome to join Big Squid on a weekend scuba diving trip to Portland.
We usually dive around Portland Harbour or Balaclava Bay. With 4-5 dives over two days on a mixture of dive sites comprising wrecks and reefs.On Past visits to Portland we have spotted: Red Mullet, Turbot, Dogfish, Greater Pipe Fish, Lesser Sand Eel, Garfish, Tom Pot Blenny, Pollack, Mackerel, Cork Wing Wrasse, Cuttlefish. Trigger Fish, Giant Jellyfish and Spider Crabs,
Location & Accommodation
Arriving on Friday evening, we stay for 2 nights in the Royal Breakwater Hotel, steeped in rich naval history.
We depart from Portland on Sunday afternoon. Big squid cannot offer transport to and from Portland however we can try to arrange a lift for you with other members of the group on a fuel share basis.
