Welcome to the Big Squid News December 2014

Thirsty Squid night, our social evening is on the 13th December at the railway tavern in Clapham., This year we are combining it with our Christmas drinks. We will be at the railway tavern from 7pm onwards. If you haven’t been before it’s very informal and friendly and you will be made to feel welcome.

Project Shark October 2014

14 Squids returned from the project shark trip on board blue horizon in the Egyptian red sea. Amongst the sightings made on the trip were oceanic, hammerhead, thresher, grey reef, white tip, manta and dugong. It was a great trip and our divers were able to contribute to shark research in the red sea for Red Sea Sharks

A novel autonomous sub

has acquired the first detailed, high-resolution 3D maps of Antarctic sea ice. Released from a ship, the vehicle criss-crossed the underside of the floes, using upward-looking sonar to measure their shape. Read more here
